Vertical stripes on a wide leg is a bolder pairing than it sounds.

A wide leg already gives you a lot of surface, and running stripes down the length of it doubles the effect. Sylva gets away with it because the drawstring waist keeps the top half completely quiet.

Wide leg. The fabric moves with every step rather than holding still, which is exactly what a stripe needs to work.

Vertical stripes. They run the full length of the leg without breaking at the knee, so the line stays unbroken from waist to hem.

Drawstring waist. You set it yourself, which is a different proposition from a fixed waistband that decided for you at the factory.

Front pockets. Set in flat so they hold what you need without adding anything at the hip.
