Merle puts its button placket to one side rather than straight down the middle, which is a small decision that changes the whole front. Sleeveless above, round-necked at the top, and nothing else asking for attention.

Asymmetrical button placket. It runs off to one side instead of down the centre, which breaks the front without adding anything to it.

Sleeveless cut. Nothing at the shoulder, so the placket stays the only line on the dress.

Round neckline. Closed and simple at the top, because the front already has its detail and does not need a second.

Midi length. Below the knee, the length that carries a meeting and a dinner without changing.
