Cropped and open-front is a blazer with nothing to hide behind.

There is no closure to draw the eye and no length to cover anything up, so Karin has to earn it on the cut alone. The structured shoulder and the three-quarter sleeve are the two things doing that work. Everything else has been deliberately left out.

Open front. No button and no closure at all, so the blazer frames whatever is underneath rather than covering it over. It layers across a dress without changing the shape of the dress.

Cropped length. It stops at the natural waist instead of carrying on past the hip, which leaves the leg line long underneath. Over a high-waisted trouser that is the entire effect.

Three-quarter sleeve. Short enough to stay wearable in September and long enough to still read as tailoring. It also leaves room for a watch or a shirt cuff to show.

Structured shoulder. Defined at the top so the open front holds its line instead of collapsing inward as you move. Without it a cropped blazer loses its shape somewhere around lunchtime.

Put it over a dress you already own and the whole outfit changes register. That is a great deal of return from a single layer.
