The draping is gathered at one hip, not spread evenly.

Gathered pleating at one hip is what gives Hedda its line — the folds run across the front of the skirt rather than sitting flat. Above it, a straight bandeau neckline keeps the top half structured instead of soft.

Strapless bandeau neckline. A straight line across the top, which is the hardest neckline to fake and the cleanest when it works.

Draped hip pleating. Gathered at one side rather than balanced, so the folds carry across the skirt instead of stopping at a seam.

High side slit. It gives the skirt somewhere to go, which a floor-length hem otherwise refuses to do.

Floor-length hem. A long straight line from the hip down, uninterrupted by anything except the slit.

You will not spend the evening checking it. With a strapless dress that is the only question worth asking, and the bodice answers it.
