Lace on a plain top is a small decision with a lot riding on it.

Narrow lace trim. It edges the neckline rather than filling a panel, so the detail reads as a finish instead of decoration. That is what keeps the top well clear of occasion-wear territory.

Round neckline. Closed and simple at the throat, which gives the lace a clean edge to sit against. A deeper neckline would have made the trim compete rather than frame.

Relaxed body. Cut easy through the waist so it drapes rather than following you, and nothing needs adjusting through the day. It tucks in as neatly as it hangs loose.

Short sleeves. Enough coverage at the shoulder to wear on its own, short enough to layer under a cardigan without bunching at the elbow. Between those two it covers most of a Canadian year.
