Elastic has a bad name because it usually means the fit gave up somewhere. On Gunhild it means the waistband moves while the straight leg below it stays properly cut, and the pockets are deep enough to use.

Elastic waistband. It gives where you need it and holds where you do not, which is the whole difference between comfortable and shapeless.

High rise. The waist sits at the natural line and stays there rather than sliding down over the course of an afternoon.

Straight leg. A clean line from hip to hem — the cut that neither dates nor demands a particular shoe.
