A footbed, not a flat board.

The difference between a shoe that finishes the day and one that finishes at lunch is usually the footbed, and Fern is built over a supportive one instead of a plain insole. The build is light on purpose, and the sole grips instead of skating.

Supportive footbed. It spreads the load across the arch and heel rather than letting every step land on the same two points.
