Tailored and wide is a harder cut than either one on its own.

A wide leg usually loosens everything above it as well, which is how it ends up looking like weekend wear. Bettine keeps the waist and hip structured and lets the leg open only below, and that is the whole difference.

High waist. It sits at the natural line and stays there, which is where a wide leg has to start if it is going to read as tailored.

Tailored through the hip. Structured where it counts, so the trouser holds its own line rather than draping into whatever you are doing.

Wide leg below the knee. The volume opens where it belongs instead of starting at the waist and losing the shape entirely.

Side pockets. Set into the seam so they sit flat and never break the vertical.
